Ingredient List

  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened baking cocoa
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup Mountain High® original or lowfat plain yoghurt
  • 1 bottle (1 oz) red food coloring
  • 1 container (1 lb) vanilla creamy ready-to-spread frosting
  • Colored sugar or chopped pecans , if desired

Preparation

  1. In a small bowl, combine vinegar and baking soda, mixing well. Allow to sit until done foaming.
  2. Meanwhile, In a medium mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, and cocoa. Set aside.
  3. Combine oil, sugar, eggs, vanilla, and yoghurt in a large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed for about 2 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally. Reduce speed to low and add in red food coloring, mixing well.
  4. Mix in half of the flour mixture at a time on low speed. Mix in vinegar mixture.
  5. Grease and lightly flour two 9-inch cake pans. Divide batter equally between pans. Bake at 350°F for about 25 to 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans to cooling rack. Cool completely, about 1 hour.
  6. Fill and frost layers with frosting. Garnish with colored sugar or chopped pecans.
